ABSTRACT
Nowadays, due to the energy and environmental crisis, using renewable energy is considered to reduce environmental pollution. In this context, heat pumps have been identified as a promising option for replacing fossil fuel-based equipment used in the building sector for heating applications. However, to lower the environmental impact of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, alternative lower-global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants must also replace the extensive use of high GWP refrigerants currently found in the market, such as R410A. Lower-GWP (GWP<750) refrigerants have recently become a topic of widespread research interest for the continuing development of vapor compression heat pumps, that have become more and more widely used. In this paper, we analyse the performance of lower-GWP alternative refrigerants for R-410A and draw conclusions on their relative performances in terms of heating capacity, seasonal coefficient of performance (SCOP), discharge temperature... The results have practical value in engineering heat pumps in an economy that is compelled to change by the consequences and uncertainties of climate change.
