ABSTRACT
The Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly gaining ground as a topic in the scenario of wireless sensor networks. Nowadays, the vast majority of world population is using, and is connected through smart mobile devices making a promising part of smart city dense environment. Smart environment presents the product of development, based on the network combination variety of sensors connected together and sharing different kind of data. However, when speaking of devices, their mutual connection and their role in network density, several topics arises. First, smart cities scenarios mostly rely on infrastructure connection, but when the infrastructure suffers loss, malfunction or other causes, connection is ex- periencing certain outage. After that, the network is useless and devices are waiting for the central point to become alive so the communication could pro- ceed. Second, the importance of device network density as a measure of network health and effectiveness presents a big dilemma in the smart city environment. Network density describes a potential connection between the nodes. The ques- tion is, how many nodes are optimal for effective data transfer from source to destination before the network becomes overloaded, since device resources are not unlimited, especially if they are low power devices. Furthermore, inter- est based connections, where devices are only sharing information to interested nodes, can improve the quality of service, suffer less latency and lower the over- load on dense network. With prior mentioned, the infrastructure-less system where nodes could share specific data, opens a lot of possibilities for different ad-hoc scenarios. Those scenarios could present static or mobile environment where objects equipped with smart sensors are aware of other objects that share specific interest, and according to necessity of communication, and specific sit- uation (traffic jam, security aware situation, tourism information, etc.) they share data.
